If you are entitled for “Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students” and have not linked your bank account with Aadhaar, then do it as early as possible else you won’t be able to claim scholarship. This year, the central government has made it clear that scholarships will be disbursed only through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and told state governments to ensure 100 per cent seeding of beneficiaries.
The government in turn has directed the college principals and university registrars in the state to make sure that the orders of the centre as met. Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students has been brought under DBT and the scholarships are being disbursed directly into the bank account of beneficiaries.
The government has initiated a major reform initiative of disbursing scholarship through Aadhaar based DBT, which entails targeted delivery of students through effective use of technology.
“It is observed that there has been slow progress in implementing the Aadhaar based DBT as only 35 per cent of the disbursement has been Aadhaar based in the last financial year. The department has been mandated to ensure 100 per cent Aadhaar seeding of beneficiaries in the scheme by December 31,” a letter issued to state government joint secretary, ministry of human resource development, stated.
The letter adds: “Achieving 100% Aadhaar seeding is possible only if the state education boards undertake enrolment of all students for Aadhaar and seed the same with the bank accounts on a mission mode. Also authentication of Aadhaar and duplication of beneficiary database needs to be undertaken to weed out ghost/bogus beneficiaries. This will enable better targeting of programmes, resulting in saving of public funds.”
The state government has been asked to file the compliance report as early as possible.
